6.2

That's right ladies and gents I walked my 10K today. And I survived! So the title is actually the conversion of kilometers to miles. I was actually proud of myself. I walked it in 1 hour 39 minutes and 25 seconds. We were the only walkers, but that's okay. And of course we were the last ones in. But for me it was about finishing, not about anything else.

The picture is of Karen in her "Mad Bomber Hat". It kept her warm and I told her it would get her tons of comments. Which it did! As runners were coming back and passing us they would tell her nice hat. And some of them looked like they were in pain.

So I had to include this picture of 'The' Jason because he gives me such grief. Don't ever make an innocent mistake around this man. He'll never let you live it down. So I took a picture of him in his runner's tights. Much to his dismay. Hey it was COLD! He ran it in 52 minutes. His goal was 48 minutes, but that's not bad.

This was my view during most of the walk. Joanna and Karen have done this before and are in much better shape than me. They keep telling me that I did a good job though. I've learned a few things for if I want to do this again. They were already trying to talk me into a 5K before we even finished the 10K. Oh the insanity!

Showing My Age

The other night the hubby and I went to the O Club for wing night with some friends. That's the Officer's Club for those of you who don't speak Navy. We were all there to meet Julie's hubby, Chad and daughter Heidi. Who were up for the weekend from the Norfolk, VA area. At least that's the excuse we were using for going out.

For once I was the DD (designated driver) instead of the hubby. Normally he's the one who drives. It was finally my turn. Bout time I guess you would say. So I ordered a Roy Rogers, which is a Coke with Cherry Grenadine in it. Only they no longer call it a Roy Rogers because kids no longer know who he is. Is that not sad? Have they never watched Die Hard? Bruce Willis mentions him! They now call it a Batman. Got to catch up with the times. They still call a Shirley Temple by the same name. Which is a Sprite or Ginger Ale and Cherry Grenadine. Isn't she older than Roy Rogers? An Arnold Palmer is lemonade and iced tea.

So I guess I'm finally feeling my age. Or actually I guess I'm feeling old.

Just Added

I've just added another blog to my things I read site. The hubby showed this to me. It's very interesting and if you have the time I truly recommend that you check it out. If you've ever wondered what Navy life is like then this is the site for you. It's a blog done by the crew of the USS Russell. It's being done so you get more of an insider's perspective of Navy life. I've found it very interesting. And I'm sure it's been a great comfort to their families as they have just started a deployment. I know I'll be checking it out every day. Hope the few people who read this will check it out as well.

10K

I must have lost my mind! I know this comment doesn't shock those who know me. But really! I think I've gone bonkers. Really!

Our friend, Karen, mentioned to me that she does 5 and 10K runs. Only she doesn't run them she walks them. So she asked me to join her on a walk this Sunday in Bristol, RI. She asked me if I'd like to go with her. And I said yes. I don't know what I was thinking. I wasn't! The hubby encouraged me. It's good exercise. Here's hoping it doesn't kill me. Or maybe that's what the hubby is hoping. Hmm.

Maybe this is a good thing though. I have been wanting to get in better shape. It's supposed to be sunny, but cold on Sunday. I hope not too cold. I'm a wimp when it comes to cold and me being out in it. So now I have to find the appropriate clothing for this and possibly new shoes. Since my current shoes are nearly on their last leg. Oh goody. Shopping trip!

Whoopie!

My buddy, Greta, used to wax poetic about whoopie pies. At first I was confused by this. What the heck was a whoopie pie? To this Midwestern girl it looked like an overgrown Suzy Q. Only they were round and not as messy. I didn't have much of a sweet tooth at the time, so I didn't see the big deal.

Apparently she couldn't get them in Norfolk and I don't recall ever seeing them when I was growing up in Illinois. She had family in Maine that would send them to her. And she was ecstatic when they arrived. Would go into a near sugar high over them.

Moving to Rhode Island I found whoopie pies in the store and it made me think of my buddy. So I purchased one just to see if it was as good as she said it was. I know she'd shared them with me in the past, but can't remember much about them. Guess your taste buds change over time.

I now see the appeal. Yum! So sweet and moist. It can be very addictive. I'll have to be careful or else I'll be gaining a LOT of weight from those tasty treats.

Patient Pooch

So last night we had our first guests over.
Much to Kaiser's delight it was his favorite person John and his wife Ruth. Hooray! However there was a twist. John and Ruth now have a son. Theo! And Theo was intrigued with Kaiser.
I'm not so sure that the feeling was entirely mutual. The hubby got down on the floor to help facilitate the introduction and everything seemed to go well. Theo followed Kaiser everywhere. That child has some get up and go! He really enjoyed crawling around the house and trying to catch up with the dog. Kaiser was extremely patient and I was very proud of him. Kaiser even did well when Theo tried to pull himself up using the dog as leverage. Our cat however, made himself scarce. Kaiser got canned dog food for being such a well behaved boy. He deserved it for such exemplary behavior.

At Last

After a three plus year separation Kaiser has his favorite guy back in his life. It took him only a few minutes to remember John.

But once he realized who it was he was in puppy heaven. Normally it takes him at least twenty minutes to even slightly warm up to any men that come into the house. If he warms up to them at all. But he knows John. In fact John used to pet sit for him when we lived in Norfolk. In fact we had to tell Kaiser to leave the poor man in peace. So needless to say he's happy to have something familiar here in Rhode Island. Who says dogs have no long term memory?

Top Ten Reasons To Watch Battlestar Galactica

Just too funny! And if you don't care for any of these reasons than I have to doubt your enthusiasm for Battlestar Galactica.

Blow Baby Blow!

Well spring is here! It's rained both Wednesdays that we've been here and I'm wondering if this is going to be a trend. Sucks with Wednesdays being trash day, but the predictability is kind of nice. However the wind started up late last night and I'm wondering when it's going to pick up the house and carry us off. It's been whipping around like you wouldn't believe. It's so bad that the dog doesn't even want to go outside. Yikes! Guess there's some truth to spring coming in like a lion. Let's just hope it goes out like a lamb real soon!

Red Wine? Anyone? Anywhere?

So the other day me and my sweet baboo went and started to explore our new home and the surrounding area. We came across the first winery, Newport Vineyards. After a tour we tried a few of their wines. Five each. The reds were kind of weak, but their whites were okay and we really enjoyed their Rose. Okay their reds were really weak. We took home two bottles, they are pictured below. They had some sweeter wines and we didn't get to try all of them. So I think we will be back.
We then started exploring again and came across another winery totally by accident. Yeah for us! So we went in and tried more wines. They were quite nice and we went home with two more bottles. They are the first two bottles pictured. We enjoyed the wines here and will be coming back just to enjoy the small winery.

One thing we did discover is that they don't keep their reds in oak for very long and the reds do NOT have much body. Guess this means we will be learning to appreciate whites out here. Another thing we learned is that they pour heavily out here. Yikes!

In celebration of receiving our new washer and dryer the hubby and I went to our newest favorite watering hole Coddington Brewery. I see a pattern starting here. In celebration of St. Patrick's Day they had two special beers Lucky Lager, the green one, and Irish Red Ale (You guessed it the red one.). Both are quite tasty. In fact we got a growler of the Lucky Lager to take home, since it won't be here for long.

St. Patrick's Day seems to be a big thing here. Could be because we're so close to Boston. We didn't go to the parade because it was raining and I had a back log of laundry to do. And am still doing.

Ah well, back to reality.

And So It Begins

I know I normally rave about wine, but we've moved locals and I haven't found a winery. Yet. Give me time, I will find something I'm sure. Nothing to replace Ingleside, but something that will be okay. Besides I know my favorite winery can ship to me. And recently a friend asked me if I'd opened a bottle of my favorite wine. Seeing as I only have one bottle of Ingleside Rosato di Sangiovese I'm saving it for when my buddy John is over so he can try it with us. This leads me to the picture above. Big ain't it?

Coddington Brewery is just across the way from us and they have some tasty beer. Yeah Steve I'm quoting you here. We've fallen in love with some of there beers. This can lead to trouble for us. But at least we can stumble home. So as a reward for us tonight, hey it's been a rough week, I went out and got us something called a growler. It's sixty-four ounces of their micro-brew. We chose the Vienna Lager. If you click on the title you will be taken to Coddington Brewery's website. And hey! Feel free to leave comments.

The Rhode Island

Finally we have arrived!

We've been here since late Monday night. It's chilly here so far, but that's okay. Everyone has been so friendly. Not something you expect when you're coming up North.

My only gripe... The roads. They spell it Rhode Island because they don't know how to pave the roads around here. They are crap! There are so many pot holes that I feel like I'm going to have to get new shocks by the end of summer. Ugh!

Packers

No not the Green bay variety! Yesterday we had 2 packers come to our home and pack up all of our worldly possessions. Yep it's time for a military move. They were amazing. There were only 2 of them and we had 2 bedrooms plus a garage. They got here at 10:30 and left at 6 with an hour lunch. They did it all in 6 and 1/2 hours. Pretty amazing. They finished the pack out in one day with only the two of them. They were an upbeat pair too. Joking and talking! Kept me and the hubby in stitches. And very professional. Out of all the moves we've done this has been the best groups and smallest group of packers we've ever had.

The movers will be here tomorrow to take all of our boxes. The cat is having a blast wandering through all the boxes. The dog is a bit confused. Wait until it's all gone.
