Cats Are Like Potato Chips

You never can stop with just one! Okay I stole that line from an old Lays commercial, but it is so true! So why fight it?

This little darling's name is Kyla. We had been hoping to take her home the same day as Pumpkin. Bust someone at the SPCA messed up really bad and wouldn't let me take her home. After a few phone calls though they did all they could to make things right and I brought this young lady home yesterday. Of course they can't seem to find out who was the cause of this. Go figure! Power hungry monster's in hiding now. But I've got people on the watch for him or her.

See, Kyla, had been with the SPCA since something like April. So the workers were appalled when they heard the mess I'd gone through. They couldn't figure out why I couldn't take her home the same day since I'd already filled out the application and been approved.

But she's here now. And that's the important part. She's more vocal than Pumpkin and very energetic. And she is definitely Jim's little girl.

The funny thing is that everyone told me she was so quiet and reserved. She's a spaz! It's so funny. They both put a smile on our faces. It's good to have young cats in the house. Pumpkin is 4 and Kyla is 3.

So we are now a two cat household. Something we haven't been since 2005. And let me tell you it feels great.

What Should One Get To Celebrate The Start Of Fall?

Answer....

A Pumpkin!

Bet you weren't expecting that answer.

This little guy is the newest edition to the household. His name is Pumpkin. I found it quite ironic that we got Pumpkin the first day of fall. And he is an orange short hair domestic. He came home with me this afternoon.

We decided another rescue kitty was needed for this house. The house just seemed really empty without Odie around. And since we rescued Odie we thought it only fitting that we should 'adopt' another. And I still have soo much love to give. Plus our house was just made for a cat with it's bay windows and seats.

Pumpkin chose us. We were going through Pet Smart with Kaiser when we spotted him. He kept staring at us and seemed to call us to him.

So we filled out the stack of paperwork with the stupid questions and waited. The SPCA does seem to make you jump through hoops to adopt one of their animals. Seeing as it was a Saturday not much actually got done in the process. But now he's home with us and seems to be adapting. Kaiser has sniffed him and they seem to be getting along. He finds the birds fascinating. They however are terrified of him. He still has his claws, but he has a scratching post. So he'd best not use my furniture as his personal toy. I'm glad he's adjusting quickly.

We were a bit worried since we were the second family for him. The first family gave him up because he marked the new baby's crib. They figured it was because he wasn't getting enough attention. Grr! Well he's in a better home now.

Saying Goodbye

Most people say that an animal has no soul. I disagree. This is Odie. He has been with me for 13 years and today I had to say goodbye to him. It was one of the hardest things that I've had to do. How can you look at this vibrant, beautiful cat and say that? Have you no feelings?

Yesterday he was a vibrant cat, climbing over my husband and grousing about the state of his litter box. Or was it because he wanted more food? I've been sidetracked though. Sorry. Mouthing off to the point that I'd shout at him to shut up. Today he couldn't breathe and was in seriously bad shape. What I would give now to hear him meow at me.

He was beautiful with his kohl rimmed eyes and lips. And his beautiful yellow fur. It was like soft sunshine. It's hard to believe that I won't have him to cuddle with anymore. And I'll miss that purr of his that starts as soon as I touched him. That purr could make anyone smile.

So this is a tribute to my darling cat.

You were known by many names. We named you Odie because your first name was too offensive, but you went by many other names. You were Chub Chub, Odiferous, Odums, Odie Oh, Odie the Great Hunter and Chubby Odie. My brother and sweet baboo preferred Chub Chub or Chubby Odie. While my buddy, Greta and I liked Odums. If I was in a whimsical mood I would sing out Odie Odie Oh and you would come running.

He liked to head butt people and that was his way of giving hugs. He would put his face up to yours and you'd have to make kissing noises to get him to back off. The only cat I've ever known of that gave out hugs and kisses. He was extremely affectionate and would purr at the drop of the hat. You had everyone under your spell the moment they touched you. You minx you!

I drink a glass of Herding Cats in your honor tonight my sweet kitten. I though it appropriate. It's a red wine. Thank you for the 13 years of companionship. The cuddles when I needed them, even when I thought you were being a pest. Thank you for seeing me through the good times and the hard. For letting me cry in your fur and for dancing with you in joy. You were a great friend. And I hope that your final journey is a good one.

I'll see you on the other side my great hunter.

I'm Home

How appropriate was it that as I arrived in Norfolk early Saturday morning Daughtry's 'Home' started playing.

I'm staring out into the night,
Trying to hide the pain.
I'm going to the place where love
And feeling good don't ever cost a thing.
And the pain you feel's a different kind of pain.

Well I'm going home,
Back to the place where I belong,
And where your love has always been enough for me.
I'm not running from.
No, I think you got me all wrong.
I don't regret this life I chose for me.
But these places and these faces are getting old,
So I'm going home.
Well I'm going home.

The miles are getting longer, it seems,
The closer I get to you.
I've not always been the best man or friend for you.
But your love, remains true.
And I don't know why.
You always seem to give me another try.

So I'm going home,
Back to the place where I belong,
And where your love has always been enough for me.
I'm not running from.
No, I think you got me all wrong.
I don't regret this life I chose for me.
But these places and these faces are getting old,

Be careful what you wish for,
'Cause you just might get it all.
You just might get it all,
And then some you don't want.
Be careful what you wish for,
'Cause you just might get it all.
You just might get it all, yeah.

Oh, well I'm going home,
Back to the place where I belong,
And where your love has always been enough for me.
I'm not running from.
No, I think you got me all wrong.
I don't regret this life I chose for me.
But these places and these faces are getting old.
I said these places and these faces are getting old,
So I'm going home.
I'm going home.

I grinned at the cat and announced that we were home. He meowed and promptly rolled over to go back to sleep. I don't think he appreciated my joy. I'll admit I was a bit punch drunk at the time. We had been on the road for a total of something like 13 and 1/2 hours. Traffic sucked!

But I digress. Norfolk has always had a feeling of home to us. And thankfully we are now back. We look forward to our life as homeowners in this area. And were thrilled when we actually pulled into the driveway.

It'll take the animals a bit to adjust, but they'll survive.

Free Stuff And the Problems They Incur

My buddy John blogged his rant about Craigslist so now I guess it's my turn.

So we're moving soon and decided to get rid of a few things so they'd stop following us around. It's old stuff so I figured why not give it away. Logical right? Let me state this first and foremost. I have nothing against Cragslist personally, just the morons who use it.

It's free people! Don't expect like new condition and ask me to call your cell or ask for my phone number. I do not give out my number to anyone I don't know. Some of the questions I got were so stupid I just told the person that I'd already given it away. Others were asking if I had other things to go with it. If I did don't you think I would have listed them? And the dickering over when to come get it. Ugh!

I had people wanting to come over the weekend to get it. Nope I stated that this had to be gone by Friday afternoon or it was going to the Good Will. I stated first come first served. Another statement was I don't want to drive all the way out there if you're gonna give this to another person. Huh? If I promise the listed item to you then I will not give it to anyone else. What's wrong with people?

I only wish they had the Freecycle site here, because it's much easier to use and you don't have to deal with that stupidity.

33

Thirty-three years ago today the world was blessed with the presence of my sweet baboo.

Okay we're all done gagging now right? You all know that I'm not this sickeningly sweet right?

Just wanted to make mention that today is my hubby's birthday. We didn't do anything major. Ate whatever he wanted and just hung out. It was nice that he was home on a week day and had nothing or no one to deal with.

So happy birthday sweetie! Now you're the same age as me. Suck it up big boy!
