More like year of the Grim Reaper!

Dear 2016,

You suck!  And here's why!  This year we've lost the following people:

Reunions!

So one of the things we were able to do while on our baseball vacation was see two friends from high school. It had been 17 years since I'd seen Denise (the lovely brunette) and around 14 years since I'd seen Sheila (the lovely red head). I met Denise in Jr. High and we hung out pretty much our Freshman and Sophomore years. Jim and hung out with Sheila a lot our Senior year. In fact Sheila came to our wedding. Not many of our high school buddies can say that. It was FANTASTIC getting to catch up with them. I've told them that they and their families are welcome in our home any time. I even got to meet Sheila's daughter, who I held as a baby. Wow has she grown up! I miss you guys already!

Jim got a few pictures of the hotel we were staying at. We had stayed at Union Station for our honeymoon, so it was kinda nice to revisit it after nearly 17 years.

Although back then it was a Hyatt (I think) and now it's a Marriott. Still looks the same. Just different management. And sadly, Union Station' shopping isn't nearly as busy as it used to be. That's the way of things though I guess.

The really cool thing is that my baby brother, Tim, works there. So I got to see him. Which made me really happy. And yes I do realize that he's really tall. I am the oldest of the kids and the shortest. The little kids I used to rule over as the big sister? Well now they tower over me. I think that might be karma coming back to bite me.

Lazy Days

Have you ever had a pajama day?

No?

Seriously you MUST try this.

Last night the hubby and I camped out in the front room, listening to Coast to Coast. I really like it when they do spooky stuff. Now I don't recommend sleeping in your front room, because I woke up with a sore back. But I digress... And honestly this is not part of pajama day.

I told my hubby to stay in jammies and today would be a lazy day. Everyone needs one or two of these. So we stayed in jammies, ate junk food and watched movies.

It started out with Sherlock Holmes. Which I'm sad to say was a disappointment to us. Kind of predictable and definitely left it open for a sequel.

Then we moved on to cheesy movies from the 80's. Gotta love that. First was Navy Seals. A must since we're in that general area. Plus my bff cut class to see this being filmed. Sorry didn't mean to rat you out there Greta. I think it was awesome and wished I had known you back then. Luckily she has the good taste to be there for Michael Beihn and not Charlie Sheen.

We've since moved on to Die Hard. Which we also consider a Christmas must. Plus that was before Bruce Willis was even considered an action star. And possibly, after that, we'll watch Red Dawn. I'm still having a hard time believing that they're remaking Red Dawn.

If you haven't seen any of these, then you are missing out on excellent 80's cheesiness. Gotta love it. Go on run out and get them. You know you'll love it.

80's Icons

Oh how you've fallen.

So the newest Go Phone commercial by AT & T has had me thinking. Gee that really looks like Meatloaf. Could it be? Nah. So I mentioned it to the hubby. He thought I was right and then I just had to Google it. Not only is that Meatloaf playing the father, but Tiffany is playing the mother. I didn't notice her because her part is so tiny in the commercial that we see on TV. I found this one. Guess it was the original one that they wanted to do.

Oh how the 'mighty' have fallen. Get out the crackers and prepare for cheese!

Best Commercial Ever!

So the hubby and I sat and watched Super Bowl's Greatest 2008 Commercials. I normally watch the Super Bowl for the commercial. Okay so I'm not a football fanatic. I don't complain when the hubby wants to watch it though.

The greatest commercial was voted Coke's Mean Joe Green's commercial from the 80's. I have to agree with them. It's a classic! How can you not get a warm fuzzy seeing that commercial? It's been number one something like seven times. Budweiser came in second and third. Not my favorites, but good ones.

Which led the hubby and I to another discussion on how much we enjoyed Budweiser's commercials. Well except for the Whaz Up fad. I always look forward to their commercials. I know many would say I'm biased because we're from the area, but their advertisers are brilliant.

Now the commercial below is the best ever! It was only aired once because they didn't want to get any financial gain off of it. It's an emotional one, so you have been warned.

I get chocked up when they bow.

A Blast From The Past

Holy cow! I remember watching this back when I was in high school. It was a hoot to watch back then. Titan was an original Gladiator. Cool to see he's in good shape and can still do this.

So I've watched it the past two nights with the hubby. They do a lot more about the contenders history, which I could care less about. But it's still pretty good. It's the only show that I've ever watched that the hubby got loud over. I know it'll become a staple in our household.

Where Have All The Icons Gone?

Growing up in the 80's I remember lots of fun commercials with popular characters. When commercials were cute, not annoying. But you don't see that as much anymore. Sure there are a few still out there. But where did they go? I mean Captain Crunch is still out there and you occasionally see Toucan Sam for Fruit Loops. Where's Geoffrey the giraffe for Toys R Us? I haven't seen Tony the Tiger in forever. I miss hearing him say 'They're Grreat!' What about Sugar Bear for Sugar Crisps? And Sonny who went cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs. You occasionally see that silly rabbit who wants Trix. And the leprechaun that's trying to keep the kids away from his Lucky Charms, but not all that much. What about the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Bakers? And the crook and his dog for Cookie Crisp? What about Frankenberry, Count Chocula and Booberry? Does anyone remember these guys? Or have I truly gone off the deep end? How about Snap, Crackle and Pop? Or Dig Em the frog? You still catch glimpses of the Honey Bee for Honey Nut Cheerios. I'm sure there are tons more, but that's all I can think of. And that's just the cereal icons. What about the Noid? And that's just a few. I could go on forever, but I've got other things to do today.
